Construction Engineering, BS

School of Engineering

Program Description:

Construction engineering is a blend of engineering, construction, and construction management.

The Construction Engineering undergraduate program at the University of New Mexico is designed for those who want to work in the construction industry and enjoy the status of a professional engineer. It is similar to the Construction Management program, but has more emphasis on engineering and technical courses. Students have the opportunity to work on real-life projects with mentors, such as planning and designing the construction of facilities ranging from a wastewater treatment lagoon to an 80-foot pedestrian bridge.

The program is accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET, http://www.abet.org/.

Career Opportunities:

With a degree in Construction Engineering from UNM, students are ready to:

  • Plan and build sustainable communities
  • Protect the natural environment through “green” facilities
  • Collaborate with architects, contractors, and government agencies
  • Engage in cost estimating, planning and scheduling, materials procurement, equipment selection, and cost control.
