Computer Engineering, BS

School of Engineering

Program Description:

Computer engineers develop software, hardware, and integrated computing systems.

Since the technology in computer engineering changes very rapidly, the Computer Engineering undergraduate program at the University of New Mexico stresses fundamental concepts as well as current application methods. Students learn how software interacts with hardware and how to build the machines and the software to process large Internet and medical datasets. UNM offers unique research opportunities to work in medical image and video analysis (e.g., brain image analysis), reconfigurable computing systems, computer security, computer graphics, computer networks and systems, and cognitive radio.

The program is accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET, http://www.abet.org/.

Career Opportunities:

With a degree in Computer Engineering from UNM, students are ready to:

  • Design new computing devices
  • Design new communication systems and networks
  • Design software systems to process and visualize images, videos, and large datasets
